Unipart Group has announced its commitment to Race to Zero, the global UN campaign to achieve Net Zero by 2040.
This is an important step that will enable all parts of the Group to support this aim with tangible improvements and activities. Initiatives within the business last year reduced CO2 consumption by 20%, reduced water consumption by 10% and achieved an overall recycling rate of 97%.
Furthermore, Unipart is dedicated to reducing single use plastics and has worked with customers, suppliers and partners to remove a total of 261 tonnes of single use plastics from its logistics operations since 2018 and on one project in the Rail sector, we have removed 13km of single use plastic in a year from the packaging used for the transit of LED signals.
In advance of upcoming UN Climate Summit COP26 in Glasgow later this year, these are the steps will be taken in the short to medium term and set interim targets.

• 202 ideas had a specific digital solution proposed
• 21% of these were specific process improvements relating to becoming paper free or eliminating shrink wrap

Race To Zero is a global campaign to rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, investors for a healthy, resilient, zero carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth.
It mobilizes a coalition of leading net zero initiatives, representing 733 cities, 31 regions, 3,067 businesses, 173 of the biggest investors, and 622 Higher Education Institutions. These ‘real economy’ actors join 120 countries in the largest ever alliance committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest. Collectively these actors now cover nearly 25% global CO2 emissions and over 50% GDP.
Led by the High-Level Climate Champions for Climate Action – Nigel Topping and Gonzalo Muñoz– Race To Zero mobilizes actors outside of national governments to join the Climate Ambition Alliance, which was launched at the UNSG’s Climate Action Summit 2019 by the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera.
The objective is to build momentum around the shift to a decarbonized economy ahead of COP26, where governments must strengthen their contributions to the Paris Agreement. This will send governments a resounding signal that business, cities, regions and investors are united in meeting the Paris goals and creating a more inclusive and resilient economy.
